Abstract
An open clinical trial was performed to determine whether or not the antithrombotic drug cilostazolat 200 mg/day would improve peipheral circulation in 30 patients with diabetic vascular complication. After 8 weeks of treatment the clinical
symptoms
such as resting pain, tingling sensation and coldness were markdly improved. The intermittent claudication was noted in 7 patients and the symptom was also improved. Among 6 patients with diabetic foot ulcer, complete healing of ulcer was noted
in
5
patients and partial reduction in 2 patients with treatment. The ankle pressure index was significantly increased (0.92¡¾0.06 vs 1.13¡¾0.08) with treatment. The foot pulse palpation and doppler ultrasound flow pattern were also improved with
treatment.
There were no specific changes in laboratory finding treatment Epigastric discomfort of mild degree and brief headache were noted on treatment and continue medication was possible. The overall clnical usfullness of cilostazol treatment in
diabetic
vascular comlication was noted in 83.3%. From these results, it was concluded that cilostazol has a beneficial effect on improvement of vascular insufficioncy in diabetic vascular complication. Further study is required to clarify the exact role
of
cilostazol treatment in diabetic complications. (J Kor Soc Endocrinol 7:373~378, 1992).
